Finding out whether the baby is a boy or girl is an exciting one. I will be sharing with you some gender reveal ideas that you can do on a tight budget.

There is nothing wrong with knowing ahead so that you know how to prepare for your new bundle of joy.

For us, we found out because we wanted to know and prepare for our babies. It also helps with thinking of what to name the baby before the baby is born. Even finding out that our first is a daughter, we still bought lots of neutral colored clothing so that we could reuse later if the next one is a boy.

Whatever your reason of finding out the sex of the baby, it’s an exciting time.

In this blog post, I will share with you 7 ways you can reveal to your spouse, your family, and friends. These are all ideas that are under $50 as I like to keep things under budget.

1. Reveal the gender with balloons

Revealing the gender with balloons are really fun and there are a few ways to do that.

Firstly, there is filling a room with balloons with the specific color of your choosing for the sex of the baby.

Some people do blue or pink. Others could do purple, yellow, or green. That is up to you how you choose what is what.

When my husband revealed to me (yes it was an agreement that he found out before me) that we’re having a baby boy this time around, he filled our bedroom with blue balloons and a sign that says “It’s a boy”.

You can get the sign in a bundle online here.

I was definitely surprised as I did not know when he would tell me or how he was going to do it.

Secondly, you can also fill a box with the same balloons and open the box up in front of family and friends (in person or virtually) as your gender reveal.

I’ve seen people put signs in front of the box saying “Boy or Girl”. It’s up to you if you want to be very creative with it or just use a plain box. Either ways, it is fun for whoever you are revealing to.

If you are having twins, I have also seen people put “Baby 1” and “Baby 2” in front of the boxes to keep people guessing what their babies are going to be.

Third, the bursting of a dark balloon with little balloons inside.

This type of balloon gender reveal is exactly what it says. There are little balloons of blue, pink, or another color you choose inside this huge balloon (usually black to prevent others from seeing inside).

When it is time to reveal, then they will pop the big balloon to see what is inside.

Fourth, pop the balloons on the wall.

There are two ways you can do this.

One is to use dark colored balloons and fill one up with confetti of either blue or pink. Blow the balloons up and tape them to the wall.

Give each person (either in person or virtually) an opportunity to choose a balloon for you to burst. When the one with the confetti burst, then everyone will know whether the baby is a boy or girl.

Another way to go about this is to do two colors of balloons. One representing a boy and the other a girl. One of the balloons will be filled with confetti.

Similar idea to the one before, the one that bursts with confetti will be the color representing either he or she.

There are so many ways you can reveal the sex of your baby with balloons, but this is not the only way. I will share other ways you can reveal below.

2. Poppers and Confetti colors

Poppers and Confettis are a really fun way to reveal the sex of your baby.

You can get them at the party store or on Etsy and pop them open when you are revealing your big news.

If you want it to be a surprise for yourself, you can also let a family or friend whom you trust to get it for you, or you can let the cashier know or send the note secretly to the Etsy owner so that they will give you the right poppers and confettis.

The downside to this type of gender reveal is the mess that you need to clean up after, especially if you have it in your home. It gets everywhere.

We did this type of reveal for my first pregnancy. My husband and I went to the party store and he picked out the poppers.

Our families were able to participate and pop their own little poppers in our backyard. It was truly a wonderful moment we could have together.

3. Baby Clothing Gender Reveal

The idea of this gender reveal is simple and can be used over and over again to reveal to different people.

If you are surprising yourself, you can get two outfits (one for a girl and one for a boy), bring it to the cashier and let them wrap up the one that is on the note (that your ultrasound technician gave you). Do NOT look at the receipt!

When you get home or wherever you want to find out, open up the bag and see what it is with the note that your technician gave you.

If you are revealing to others, you can wrap up your little baby outfit, and give it to others to open to find out whether you are having a baby girl or boy.

Since some family members or friends live further away, you can also reveal it to them virtually. During your conversation or while you’re telling them about the baby, show them the outfit that you bought for the baby. I am sure that they will be excited for you!

4. Scratch Off Cards

Another gender reveal idea that you might want to consider are these Scratch off Cards. Similarly to scratching a card to reveal your discount or pass code, these cards are a fun way for people to find out.

There are different designs available on Etsy, so do check them out.

The faster they scratch it off, the sooner they will find out if the baby is a he or she.

If you order a stack, you can reveal to your family and friends in a group setting or when you visit them. If you are unable to see them in person, you might consider mailing it to them and get them to call you before scratching the card off.

5. Cake and cupcake reveal

This idea of gender reveal involves food, and who does not like that?

To find out whether your baby is a boy or girl, fill the cake or cupcakes (or ask your baker to do it) with blue or pink filling.

This way, when you cut it open or bite into it, you and the people around you will find out the sex of the baby.

I have also seen that people fill the cupcake or cake with blue or pink M&Ms. You can be as creative as you want with this, or ask your baker for some ideas.

6. Crack an egg on your head

Have you seen this game before where people crack eggs on their head? Most of the eggs would be empty, but there would be one or two that has not been emptied.

I am not sure if I would do this for a gender reveal, but I have seen people do it.

They would paint the eggs blue and pink and take turns to pick one to crack on their heads.

When the one with the yolk breaks, that is when you’ll know whether the baby is a he or she.

This would be a surprise for you so get someone else to paint and empty the eggs for you.

The anticipation of which egg will break is definitely a fun factor in this gender reveal.

7. Sibling / Fur sibling Gender Reveal

Last but not least, it is great to involve a sibling to reveal the sex of the baby to your family and friends.

If you have a pet, you can put a scarf on them or tie a balloon to them with the color representing the sex of the baby.

You could take a picture of your pet plus the ultrasound of the baby to show others that you will be having a baby boy or a baby girl.

If you have an older child, there are a few ways you can reveal with them:

  • Using a letter board, you can reveal it to them and with them
  • They can hold up the baby onesie to reveal to others
  • They can hold a balloon of a specific color

There are so many ways that you can involve the baby’s sibling and/or fur sibling to reveal the gender of the baby. I would highly encourage you to get them involved as this is a new stage of life for them as well.
