Candles
The amount of candles on sale during the holiday and the variety of candles is quite festive in itself. If you are planning to include candles in your wedding decorations or even to use for the candle lighting ceremony, this would be the best time to buy these candles.
There are so many decoration ideas that you can use candles whether in your ceremony or reception.
Here are two ideas:
- Candles of different sizes as a centrepiece for reception (different candles can be propped up with stands or jars
- Candles in mason jars as an aisle runner (either on the floor or hanging by the chairs)
-
Vendor Sales
Whether you’re thinking about getting thank you cards or buying an aisle runner, many vendors hold sales events during the holiday season. If your wedding is not too close to the holiday season, you might want to wait and see if the items you want or need to buy will go on sale. You can also do research on their past holiday sales event to see if it’s worth waiting until then.
Sometimes, the vendors will mail or email out coupons to those on their mailing list. Be sure to sign up for these mailing lists if you know you’re interested in buying from them.
-
Themed decorations
The holidays are all about bling and glamour (you know, besides spending time with family and friends). Stores have decorations in abundance of all colours at a reasonable price. You can find an assortment of ribbons, balloons, glitter, and bells for your wedding.
Keep an eye out if you’re going a DIY route for these decorations that you can buy from the plentiful of choices during the holiday season.
-
Chocolate favours
You can wait for the holidays to be over to buy this or buy during one of the holiday sales. If you’re planning to give chocolate as your favour, this is a good time to buy because many of the chocolate brands offer discounts during the holiday season.
A good tip is that you don’t want to buy holiday-themed chocolates unless you’re having your wedding around the holidays.
-
Gifts for bridal party
Similarly to Vendor sales, check out Etsy or other stores for gifts for your bridal party. Have a rough idea of what you want to buy for your bridal party after they’ve agreed to be in your bridal party. Look for deals or ask for a discount (if it’s an Etsy seller), during the holiday season. They might accommodate your request because you asked nicely and are giving them good business since you’re buying in bulk.
What you should avoid buying during the holiday sale season:
-
Wedding attire for you or bridal party
Why should you avoid buying wedding attire for you or your bridal party? You might see that the store you like is having a sale for the evening gown or the suit that you want the groomsmen to wear.
Unless you really want to buy them, I would highly suggest that you wait.
Why?
The holiday season is when people are going to different parties and having a ton of food. They might gain weight that they don’t necessarily want to feel or see while trying outfits for your wedding.
Unless you’re scrambling last minute for something, I would suggest until after the New Year when you, your future spouse, and your bridal party feel much better about their bodies after the holiday season.
-
Last minute items
It’s not fun to buy something at the last moment (unless you live for that adrenaline). I would discourage you to buy any last minute items if possible because you might not get what you actually want or bought.
During the holiday season, things can be cheaper online but you’ll have to wait for the item to be shipped to you. It would be an absolute disaster if the item you bought for your wedding went out of stock.
Also, you’ll be very frustrated if they send the wrong stock or colour to you. You don’t have the time to return and exchange for another one if you’re buying your last minute items during the holiday season.
-
Furniture for new home
If you’re moving into a new place with your hubby, you’ll be looking to buy furniture during the time of sales. What I suggest for you to do is to monitor the flyer for sales before the holiday season so that you can evaluate if it’s worth to buy.
Sometimes, it’s better to buy the furniture in January because they’ll have new designs for the New Year and they’ll try to clear the old furniture by dropping the price drastically.
At the end of the day, you want to use the holiday season sales to your advantage so that you can find the best deal for your wedding. It’ll be totally worth it if you enjoy the process of bargain hunting and saving some money that you can use for your honeymoon.
