It’s so important to decorate your home with intention on on budget.

I guess with the quarantine (this was written in early April 2020), it gives us time to really think and finish the projects we wanted.

In this blog post, I will share with you how you can decorate your home on a tight budget. This is a process that can be easily followed though it will take some time. If you don’t know, I am really into slow decorating.

What does that even mean?

It means taking the time to really evaluate the space in the home before decorating or filling it with stuff. I don’t want you to waste your money by just filling your space just because you can. I want to encourage you to think about what you have and the purpose of each space.

Then, you can make intentional decisions about buying furniture and accessories for that space.

Before we continue, here is a list of home projects we’ve worked on:

Pin this for later!

Contents
Before you go and decorate any space in your home, declutter and clean your home. I’ve written this post on 10 Easy Ways to Declutter Your Home.

Why is it important to declutter your home?

One of the big reasons for this purpose is to find out what you actually have. You can not only get rid or donate items that you don’t use or like anymore, and find things that you can use in ‘x’ room.

Sometimes, cleaning up our space will allow us to have that breathing room space and also find treasures that we forgot we had.

“I was looking for this!”

Does that sound familiar? No, just me? Okay.

It get pretty exciting to have a space cleaned out and then start working on decorating. Get to work and declutter (I’m cheering for you on the side).

Start with one space and then move on the next. If you can’t declutter the whole house, that’s okay. I take one space at a time. Do what works for you.

It is so easy to want to do everything at once. The problem is, you won’t get it all done.

Pick one space and focus on it before moving on to the next space.

It can be very distracting to think about everything and not get any work done at all. I’m speaking from experience.

When I think about my home and the projects I want to do, it is so easy to make list of what I want to do in each space. However, it’s only items I want to get but not truly understanding what I want the space to be.

Of course, you can have a color palette or style for your home, but when you’re working on it, choose one space at a time.

You can use my free template to help you plan for your space.

However, if you want to start on a different space while waiting for an item to finish up your current space, go ahead. With our current situation, it takes a while for the items to ship to us. I bought this curtain rod for my daughter’s room and it took a few weeks to come. So, I work on another space while waiting.

Do this before you go shopping or research for items.

Shop your own home.

While planning for your space, think about what you already have. Use the items that you found while decluttering and see if that fits this particular space you’re working on.

If the picture frame or a dresser doesn’t match the room, paint it. Give it a makeover to fit your space (if that is what you want to do).

The most efficient way to decorate on a budget is to use what you already have.

Do your research online. Check different stores and stores that you don’t usually shop at.

See if they offer free shipping or coupons if you sign up for their emails.

You can sign up for Amazon Prime free for 30 days. We have Amazon Prime and it’s been pretty useful, especially if you are also part of Amazon Family. We were able to save on a number of baby items.
