However, the second baby gift ideas do not necessarily mean that they just get the hand-me-downs. It can be much more creative than that!

As a soon to be mom of 2, it’s quite interesting to think about what to get the second one as I have items from my firstborn.

It’s nice to also have some new but practical things for the baby.

1. Personalized blanket

Considering that this baby will have items from their older sibling, one of the second baby gift ideas that could be special to them is a personalized blanket. If you know the name of the baby, this will be such a great gift to the baby.

Blankets are great not just for sleeping, but can be also use for multiple purposes. They can be used as a play mat to put the baby on, or even use for warmth in the car with adult supervision in the back.

With the personalized blanket, you can choose the design that you like and it’ll be customized with their name.

You can check out the different designs on Etsy as people are very creative in their designs as well as the fonts for the names. Also, you’re supporting a home-based entrepreneur. That is always a great thing!

2. Plush Animals

Plush animals is another great option as a second baby gift idea. Though it may seem overrated as the first child might have plush animals, you can always customize it.

You can choose it based on the gender of the baby or customize with the birth details like this one.

If you are the parent of the second baby, you can involve the older child to choose a plush animal for the baby. It’s always a great idea to get the older child involve in certain decisions so that they can feel the pride of welcoming the new baby into the family.

Also, plush animals are just so cute, especially when you see the little one hugging them.

Similarly to the personalized blanket, you can get a customized name sign for the baby’s nursery.

Whether you want just the first name or include the middle name, the options are endless. What I like about this type of gift is that it will last a long time and the designs are really creative.

If you want for the name sign to grow up with the baby, you can always go for a more minimal look with just the name and a wood backing. However, if you have a theme in your nursery, you can choose other designs such as mountains as a backdrop to your name sign.

It is totally up to you.

One note though, you might want to make sure that both children have their own name signs to avoid any rivalry. However, this is up to you.

Another second baby gift idea is a teether. This is more for hygienic reasons.

Having a second baby is the only time you can get this gift.

You can get a little sister or brother onesie just for the new baby. If you are into matching sets, you can also get a big brother or sister shirt for the older sibling and take a picture of them two after the baby is born.

I remembered getting a big and little brother shirts for my nephews on Etsy when my sister in law told us that she was expecting another boy. It was so adorable. Now, this little brother shirt has been passed down to us and our little one can wear it.

As I am preparing for my second baby, I thought about what would be helpful this time around. One of the ideas is the baby closet dividers.

I created different designs and put them on Etsy. You can get them, cut them, and hang them in your baby’s closet.

Side note: These also include other labels such as “shirts, long sleeves, etc.”. I’m using them in my toddler’s closet to help us put the clothes where they should be, most of the time.

Last but not least, a gift you can get for the second baby is a swaddle blanket.

Swaddles are so helpful for the newborn parents, even second time around. This will make the baby feel snugged and hugged. Hopefully, what this means is that they will sleep faster and a little longer.

With my second one coming, we decided that we need more swaddles as it really helped with the first one. Be sure to check the material of the swaddle blanket as some babies’ skin can be sensitive to certain materials.
